Hoisin Sauce is an elixir that makes everything better. Okay, that’s just an opinion, but we think you’ll agree once you’ve tried Hoisin. Hoisin Sauce is a Chinese sauce that’s thick in texture, dark in appearance, pungent in aroma, and sweet and salty in taste. It’s made from soy beans, vinegar, garlic, sugar and spices to give it that multidimensional sweet and salty taste. Hoisin can be used as a dipping sauce for finished dishes or used as a marinade while you’re cooking.
One of the most common uses for Hoisin is to serve it with Peking Duck. You’ll also see it served with Moo Shu Pork at your favorite Chinese restaurant. My favorite recipe that uses Hoisin Sauce is our Hoisin Baby Back Rib recipe. We mix the Hoisin sauce with vinegar, orange juice, soy sauce and hot sauce then brush it on Baby Back Ribs and slowly smoke them. It’s a recipe that even people who don’t like ribs will love!
