Honey Lemon Fried Walleye
Walleye is one of our favorite fresh water fishes to cook! It has a subtle sweet flavor with not a lot of fishy flavor! This fish is perfect to bread and pan fry. Maybe you’ve had it at your favorite fish fry joint? This recipe puts a little twist on the traditional fried walleye recipe by using a honey with the egg wash and lemon zest in the seasoning to bring a sweet, bright flavor to the fried fish. Ingredients
- 4 Walleye Fillets (about 6 oz each)
- 2 Egg
- 2 tsp Honey
- 1 cup Panko Bread Crumbs
- 1/3 cup Flour
- 2 tsp Lemon Zest (save lemons for serving)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- Vegetable Oil
Directions
- Add the eggs and honey to a shallow bowl and whisk together. In a second bowl, combine the panko, flour, lemon zest, salt, and pepper.
- Dip the fish into the egg mixture, then coat with the seasoned bread crumbs.
- Add enough oil to a large skillet to cover 1/4″ of the pan. Heat to medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the fish for 3-4 minutes on each side until the crust is golden brown and the fish flakes easily.
- Serve with fries, green beans, and lemon wedges to squeeze on top of the fish. Enjoy!
