Walleye is one of our favorite fresh water fishes to cook! It has a subtle sweet flavor with not a lot of fishy flavor! This fish is perfect to bread and pan fry. Maybe you’ve had it at your favorite fish fry joint? This recipe puts a little twist on the traditional fried walleye recipe by using a honey with the egg wash and lemon zest in the seasoning to bring a sweet, bright flavor to the fried fish. Ingredients

  • 4 Walleye Fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 2 Egg
  • 2 tsp Honey
  • 1 cup Panko Bread Crumbs
  • 1/3 cup Flour
  • 2 tsp Lemon Zest (save lemons for serving)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • Vegetable Oil

Directions

  1. Add the eggs and honey to a shallow bowl and whisk together. In a second bowl, combine the panko, flour, lemon zest, salt, and pepper.

  2. Dip the fish into the egg mixture, then coat with the seasoned bread crumbs.

  3. Add enough oil to a large skillet to cover 1/4″ of the pan. Heat to medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the fish for 3-4 minutes on each side until the crust is golden brown and the fish flakes easily.

  4. Serve with fries, green beans, and lemon wedges to squeeze on top of the fish. Enjoy!

Another excellent recipe shared by LGCM! Turned out crispy on the outside; moist, tender and flakey inside using the recipe exactly as published. Thanks LGCM!
