In this Recipe

In the Vorpagel-Leahy family, we don’t default to Italian sausage as our pizza topping of choice; we use bratwurst!

Many family gatherings and meals feature a homemade pizza with this flavorful and unique combination of toppings: bratwurst, bacon, and peppers, topped with slices of Mozzarella cheese from our deli section.

We use Paielli’s premade pizza dough for this recipe, but you can make your own or use any other store bought pizza dough. Similarily, feel free to use your favorite store-bought or homemade pizza sauce.

Our pizzas always end up a little lopsided because we’re meat experts, not dough experts, but they taste great.

This is such a simple recipe and you can customize it however you like. This recipe is here as an idea and a starting point for you to enjoy your own bratwurst pizza at home.

Cheers!

Ingredients

  • Refrigerated Pizza Dough (12 – 14 oz dough ball – store bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup Pizza Sauce (store bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 lb Leahy’s Fresh Bratwursts (removed from casing – cooked into crumbles and drained of grease)
  • 4 slice Bacon (diced – cooked and drained of grease)
  • 1 Bell Pepper (sliced and cook until softened – use green / red / yellow or a mix!)
  • 10 Mozzarella Cheese Slices

Directions

  1. Stretch the dough to your desired thickness and evenly spread pizza sauce on top of the dough to within about 1/8″ of the edge.

  2. Evenly top the pizza with the cooked bratwurst crumbles, bacon, and bell pepper, then add the mozzarella cheese slices on top of the other toppings.

  3. Bake the pizza according to the instructions on the dough until the dough is cooked and the cheese is melted. Slice it up and enjoy!
