When you love the Green and Gold, you want everything you do to celebrate your love of the team. This bratwurst recipe helps step up your meals to peak green and gold levels.

We start with our fresh Cheddar and Pepper bratwurst then top it with Wisconsin cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, sauteed jalapeno peppers, chopped green onions, and, because it makes everything better, bacon! All these flavors together equal a dish executed to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 4 Leahy’s Cheddar and Pepper Bratwurst (fresh)
  • 4 Pretzel Buns
  • 1 Onion (medium)
  • 1 Jalapeño Pepper (diced)
  • 2 strip(s) Bacon (seeds and ribs removed)
  • 1 bunch(es) Green Onion (diced)
  • 1 cup(s) Cheddar Cheese (diced)
  • 2 Tbsp Butter (diced)

Directions

  1. Start preparing the bratwursts by boiling them in a large pot of water. Once the water reaches a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

  2. While the bratwursts are simmering, melt the butter in a medium sized pan. Add the onions and cook over medium heat until they are soft. Once the onions are soft, add the jalapeno peppers and bacon. Continue cooking until the onions are browned and the jalapeno is soft. Stir as necessary to prevent burning.

  3. After the bratwursts have simmered for 10 minutes, remove from water and sear on each side for 3-4 minutes over medium heat using a broiler, grill or frying pan.

  4. Once brats are browned, remove from heat and place on pretzel bun. Assemble sausage creation by layering on the onion-jalapeno-bacon mixture, followed by cheese, green onions and more cheese. Enjoy!
