What is unique about this whiskey?

This is the first bottled-in-bond whiskey made in Minnesota since before Prohibition!

Isn’t that awesome?

If you’re not aware of what bottled-in-bond means, it’s a set of federal regulations that require certain quality and aging standards must be met for the whiskey to be labeled bottled-in-bond. These regulations come from an act of Congress passed in 1897 designed to combat adulteration in American whiskey and still exist today. You can learn more about the exact standards right here.

In addition to being a bit of Minnesota history, this wheated bourbon is a bit unique for Tattersall as they generally focus on rye whiskey products. This bottle has zero rye in it and instead is a mash bill of 55% yellow corn, 35% winter wheat, and 10% malted barley.

Wheated bourbons are less common than non-wheated bourbons, due to the higher cost of wheat compared to corn or rye. Adding wheat to the mash bill generally imparts a sweet and rich character to the flavor of the whiskey, as well as a soft, smooth mouthfeel. They are highly sought after products.

Finally, all of the grain comes exclusively from Minnesota and the oak barrels the bourbon was aged in comes from Minnesota as well. This is a true Midwest original product with local ingredients and love throughout the product.

What does this whiskey taste like?

This is an aromatic, smooth bourbon that has been earning rave reviews for its drinkability.

We pick up toasted marshmallow on the nose with caramel, sweet vanilla, and apple flavors. There is a touch of baking spice on a very easy finish. We think our store pick has a bit softer mouthfeel compared to other versions that we’ve tried and we really love it…it’s dangerously smooth!

The combination of 100 proof (50% alcohol by volume) and high wheat addition make this bourbon a lovely sipper either neat, over ice, or with a splash of water.

It can also be used to make quality high-proof bourbon cocktails such as Bourbon Sours, Boulevardiers, Bourbon Smashs, Manhattans, and, of course, Old Fashioneds!

Can I try this whiskey before I buy it?

Yes! We have a free tasting event happening on Friday, December 9th at Lake Geneva Country Meats from 3 PM – 5 PM for you to stop out and try the bottle. We’ll also be sampling other bottles from Tattersall and you’ll be able to meet Marcus from the distillery. He’s full of information about the distillery, cocktail suggestions, and more!

Is this your first collaboration with Tattersall?

No, this is actually our third collaboration with Tattersall. The other two have gone so well, we’ve kept doing more!

We released a rye whiskey barrel in 2021, and a Barrel Aged Old Fashioned cocktail in August 2022. We still have the Old Fashioned available for you to enjoy, so pick up a bottle of that along with your wheated bourbon!
