Here’s our 60 second Gran Passione Falanghina wine review, plus tasting notes, food pairing suggestion and more!
Gran Passione Falanghina Review
The 2015 Gran Passione Falanghina comes from Beneventano in the South of Italy. You’ve probably never heard of the Falanghina grape, but is an ancient variety native to Italy that dates back to Roman times. It fell out of favor, but is becoming popular again as wine lovers start to appreciate the fragrant, medium bodied wines that come from this grape.
The Gran Passione Falanghina has aromas of white flowers, peaches, and citrus fruits. It’s definitely medium bodied, but still crisp on the finish with some nice mineral notes. The combination of flavor and acidity make it a refreshing and versatile wine that can be paired with food, enjoyed with a cheese course, or pounded out on a patio with friends.
For a normal retail price of $12.99 per bottle, this is a tremendous value.
Falanghina Food Pairing Suggestion
This wine pairs perfectly with Southern Italian food. For proteins, think about chicken and seafood, and for seasoning, think of classic Italian herbs, or lemon pepper seasoning. It’s hard to go wrong with these flavor combinations. Here are two recipes that you can easily make at home that pair with this wine:
- Chopped Greek Salad with Chicken – pictured above, the fresh flavors of this salad pair perfectly with the freshness of the wine.
- Halibut with Capers, Olives, and Tomato – the bold Mediterranean flavors in this recipe are beautifully complemented by the floral and fruity flavors of the wine.
